This centrifuge housing is an award-winning demonstration of Reaction Injection Molded (RIM) ability to permit variable wall thickness without sink marks. This feature allows flexibility in part design, which reduces design and tooling costs.
This application also shows how easily RIM can be adapted to design for manufacturing principles.
Another advantage is that the structural integrity of the RIM molded polyurethane is used to contain any failure of the centrifuge.
